Evolution of the ute tray and light-duty truck bed

Next Generation Comtruk

The automotive world is changing fast with the application of new technology in next generation powertrains and drivetrains for motor vehicles.

Electric vehicle (EV) technology, hydrogen fuel cells and a range of other new innovations, will see a monumental shift in the automotive space in the coming years.

Simultaneously, the quest for renewables and the reduction in fossil fuel dependency will inspire a quantum shift in how commercial fleets utilise and manage their vehicles.

Most of this conversation around next generation commercial vehicles seems to focus on the application of new powertrain systems and the fuel savings they can deliver in the use of the fleet. The challenge for many fleet owners is to correlate a return on investment based on the cost/life cycle of the vehicle and fuel costs using either traditional fossil fuels or renewables.

design & direction

Forward Comtruk

Comtruk’s mission is to produce next generation beds and bodies that improve the design and direction of innovative next generation commercial vehicles.

Most fleets strive to maximise return on investment as a ratio of initial investment (truck cost) X productivity delivered during the working day. Payload sise (productivity), truck mass, fuel cost, maintenance, and occupational safety are key areas of consideration when assessing value to the fleet operator.

Increasingly, fleet managers focus the ability of the ute or truck to do a day’s work in the most efficient and safest way possible.

Occupational safety, useable work area, and the ability maximise deployment during the working day are key elements in determining the right choice of vehicle and body.

A Solution for EV & Hydrogen Manufacturers

Comtruk Solutions

Most of the conversation around fleets and EV limits the focus to how many kilometers can be delivered out of one charge. In reality, fleets’ most pressing issue should be productivity through hours of work. For example, dispatching the vehicle for a day’s work without returning to re-charge.

Comtruk aluminium operable beds are designed for current utes and work trucks, as well as NexGen. They are an aluminium and composite based product our design and engineering teams have developed for next generation vehicles. These designs are ready today.

While both light in weight and large in work area, they deliver a solution that fits hand in glove with next-generation EV and fuel cell power trains. Comtruk designs are contemporary and complement the architecture of many vehicles from EV and hydrogen companies like Tesla, Rivian, Altis, Lucid, and more.

Comtruk has already developed solutions to build more functional work trucks of the future. For the last five years, our product engineering teams have been designing a range of solutions for a variety of light duty commercial vehicles from regular utes through to larger light commercial vehicles.

The Comtruk range of beds provide a lightweight work area integrated with a range of bespoke and standard accessories to customise for the fleet or industry. This includes a range of racking, toolbox, and utility accessories.
